VI. Treasurers Report
A. Review of financials to date
Kathy Umland distributed the current financial statement. Current checking balance is $24,555.97. We are on track to cover all expenses for upcoming events NSAC, National Conference in June. ADDY entries were down slightly but Bob did a great job managing the process so we made up the deficit there.
VII. Committee Reports
A. ADDYS Bob Thomas. Inkjet Ideas hosted the judging. The entries were flat & a little below. Lots of issues were raised about the software. We are all to send issues wed like addressed on the national level to Bob who will compile in an email to see if we can use our collective clout to make some basic changes (save all being one!). National letters to Silver winners going out with instructions to submit before national judging on May 3rd. LuAnn will be appointing a new national chairperson to replace Joyce Mireault who has served the maximum of four years.
LuAnn also mentioned that there was a survey sent out to some members about the entire ADDY structure and event, gathering information about awards programs in general. None of the people at the table received the survey. Be good to know who did receive it.
B. National Conference LuAnn Yattaw. Asked who would be attending the conference in Atlanta, June 8-11. Some people cited budget as the reason they would not be attending. LuAnn, Kathy, Bob and Shane will all be there.
C. NSAC Shane Dailey. 250 students with 10 teams participating. St. Thomas was a last minute pull out, though they attended the event with the intention of participating next year. New this year was a happy hour reception hosted by Olson & Co. for the students if successful, we may want to find an annual sponsor.
Also discussed was the venue (Crowne Plaza Hotel and Minneapolis). Feedback on both would be appreciated please send comments to Shane for future discussion.
Happy news! We received VERY generous donations to NSAC from Inkjet Ideas ($1000), Fox River ($500) and Fargo ($500). Thank you so much the kids will really benefit from your kind assistance.
IV. Foundation Report Gina Nacey. Current balance $82,196.28 (took a hit with the market). She made a plea to each club to consider donating this year and to try to include it as a line item in each clubs annual budget .
Happy news! Fox River made a $500 donation and so did Fargo. A huge thank you to both clubs for their generosity!
V. Central Region Report - LuAnn Yattaw. She reported that there is an open position as Secretary/Treasurer on the central Region you must have served as District Governor to apply/run for this position. Any nominations or interest should be sent to Mark Mahla.
VIII. GREAT 8 CHALLENGE LuAnn Yattaw. She reported that since Fox River has officially adapted the name change to AAF Fox River, they have taken the lead with 56 points. If any other club is contemplating the name change, she encouraged them to do it before the June conference so they could be eligible for the additional 20 points. (LuAnn will resend out the information on the name change to the clubs).
X. Old Business None discussed.
XI. New Business LuAnn Yattaw.
Nominations open for the secretary/treasurer position for the 8th District. Please send nominations to Gina. Potential candidates have to have been a club resident to qualify.
Also need to replace Joyce as the D8 representative on the National ADDY committee. (See comment/note above) Position requires some travel the budget covers some of the expenses. The amount not covered needs to be made up by other means (employer, local club donation or by individual). Please send nominations to LuAnn.
We hosted the Student Advertising Summit the day before the NSAC competition this year, hoping to draw on the students attending NSAC. Unfortunately, we did not see any additional attendees, if fact, attendance was down only drawing about 130 students (compared to 250 last year). The committee feels like they will move the event back to February so attendees feel like they are ahead of the internship curve as well as reaping the networking benefits.
A. Next Conf call: Monday, May 12th. 2pm.
